Over Half of Russians Say Disabled People Treated Better Compared to 5-10 Years Ago - Poll

More than half of Russians believe that people with disabilities in Russia are treated better than they were five or 10 years ago, with the primary concern of disabled people now being problems with obtaining medicine, a poll carried out by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) revealed on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) More than half of Russians believe that people with disabilities in Russia are treated better than they were five or 10 years ago, with the Primary concern of disabled people now being problems with obtaining medicine, a poll carried out by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) revealed on Thursday.

"More than half of the respondents (52 percent) note an improvement in the treatment of disabled people in the last five to 10 years (an increase from 26 percent in 2010)," the pollster said.

According to 43 percent of respondents, disabled people are mainly faced with the problem of procuring all their necessary medication, with another 36 percent saying that their main problem is an insufficient disability allowance.

The poll also revealed that a total of almost 70 percent of respondents had an acquaintance who suffered from some sort of disability, while another 20 percent said that one of their family members living with them was disabled.

Half of the respondents believed that city infrastructure had become more accessible for disables persons, while another 43 percent did not notice any changes and only two percent said that the city was now less accessible.

The poll was conducted for the All-Russian Society of Disabled People on August 6 among a total of 1,600 respondents aged 18 or older.
