Two ships carrying armored and heavy vehicles for the joint UK-Oman drills dubbed Saif Sareea 3, which are set to take place in the sultanate this fall, have arrived in Oman, the UK government said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th August, 2018) Two ships carrying armored and heavy vehicles for the joint UK-Oman drills dubbed Saif Sareea 3, which are set to take place in the sultanate this fall, have arrived in Oman, the UK government said on Thursday.

"This week, two roll-on roll-off (RORO) ships transporting armoured and heavy vehicles for Exercise Saif Sareea 3 (SS3), which will take place across Oman in October to November 2018, arrived in Duqm Port, Oman," the government said in a statement.

The ships sailed into the Port of Duqm, located on the country's central coastline, on August 10 and August 14. Each vessel was carrying over 3,500 tonnes of cargo consisting of over 200 vehicles, including Warrior armored fighting vehicles, Scimitar armored reconnaissance vehicle (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Tracked) and Bulldog personnel carriers. The equipment is set to be transported to Duqm's Joint Logistics Support Base and other locations.

UK Joint Forces Command is in charge of transporting the equipment involved by sea and air in the exercise both prior to and after the event.

This will be the third edition of the Exercise Saif Sareea; the previous two took place in 1986 and 2001. During the exercise, the United Kingdom and Oman will practice cooperation in harsh conditions. A firepower demonstration will be the highlight of the event.
