Partner force of the US-led Coalition against the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) has captured a dozen of its fighters in the southern part of Syria on Thursday, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said in a release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) Partner force of the US-led Coalition against the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) has captured a dozen of its fighters in the southern part of Syria on Thursday, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said in a release on Monday.

"Coalition partner force Maghawir al-Thowra (MaT) detained 12 suspicious persons transiting inside the Coalition-held 55-kilometer deconfliction zone around At Tanf in southern Syria, August 9," the release said. "Upon detention and investigation, five Daesh [Islamic State] terrorists were identified. The additional seven individuals are suspected of assisting Daesh by smuggling the terrorists through the deconfliction zone."

The coalition noted that the latest detentions come after the arrest of 25 Islamic State terrorists during the month of July.

MaT commander Muhanned al-Tallaa stressed in the release that his army and its partners in the Coalition will remain in the 55km deconfliction zone.

The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.
