UK Muslim Council Asks May to Ensure Johnson Faces Full Inquiry Over Burqa Row - Reports

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) will ask UK Prime Minister Theresa May to make sure that former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson be subject to a full disciplinary inquiry over his recent comments about women wearing burqas, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th August, 2018) The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) will ask UK Prime Minister Theresa May to make sure that former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson be subject to a full disciplinary inquiry over his recent comments about women wearing burqas, local media reported.

In his column for The Telegraph newspaper on August 5, Johnson compared Muslim women wearing burqas to "letter boxes" and "bank robbers." The UK prime minister and other senior Conservative Party members asked the former foreign secretary to apologize for his comments.

In a letter to be sent to the UK prime minister and seen by The Guardian, the organization warned the Conservative Party against "whitewashing of this specific inquiry currently in process," stressing that "no one should be allowed to victimize minorities with impunity."

According to media reports, Johnson is facing a probe into the breaches of the Conservative Party's code of conduct over his burqa comments.
