PTI members upset as Sh Rasheed wants nephew to contest NA-60 election

The party members have warned to hold protests against the nomination of Sheikh Rashid Shafiq.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 6th August, 2018) The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members has rejected the nomination of Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rasheed’s nephew from NA-60, Rawalpindi.

Not only that, the party members have also warned to hold protests against the nomination of Sheikh Rashid Shafiq.

Party sources said that Sh Rasheed wants to bring his nephew as the candidate for NA-60. Sh Rasheed also held a meeting with chairman Imran Khan in this regard. However, the PTI chairman clarified that only the party workers will be given a chance to contest from this seat.

The PTI’s local leadership is unhappy over Sheikh Rashid Shafiq being considered as a candidate for NA-60.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court had termed null and void the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision to postpone polling in NA-60 Rawalpindi after the conviction of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi in the ephedrine case.

A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also directed the Commission to hold by-election in the constituency on time.

Petitioner Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed praised the court's decision and took back his petition against the ECP order.

On July 22, Abbasi was sentenced for life in the ephedrine quota case following which the ECP postponed the election in the Rawalpindi constituency. On July 24, Sheikh Rasheed, Abbasi's main contender in the constituency, approached the top court against the ECPorder but the Supreme Court allowed for the postponement to continue and decided to take up his plea later.
