Asif Zardari not interested in becoming president: Hamid Mir

Says it is in the authority of PTI to make its own president as it has a majority.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 30th July, 2018) Senior journalist Hamid Mir while talking on a tv program has said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is not interested in being the president of the country.

Mir said that it is in the authority of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to make its own president as it has a majority.

The journalist added that the PTI will appoint a president from its own party and its Mamnoon Hussain would be someone from their old leaders of the party.

The PTI fell a few seats short of getting a simple majority in the general elections so they are contacting independent candidates to join the party.

The PTI has finalized its team to form government in Punjab while Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Parvaiz Elahi is expected to be given the Interior Ministry.

According to sources, Asad Umar, Chaudhry Sarwar, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry, Muhammad Mian Soomro, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Andaleeb Abbas, Shibli Faraz, Murad Saeed, Arif Alvi, Ali Zaidi, Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtyar, Sardar Nasrullah Dareshal, and Naeem ul Haq will be given important responsibilities in the government while PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi can be given the Interior Ministry.

However, a decision about party’s central leader Dr Yasmin Rashid has not been taken yet. Dr Yasmin Rashid is also proposed to be appointed as speaker of Punjab Assembly while the Ministry of Health is also being considered for her.

The PTI will take the final decision about government formation in Punjab in the next two days.

It is noteworthy that the PTI has got a majority in Punjab after getting the support of independent candidates. The PTI had won 123 seats in Punjab and after independent candidates joining the party, it has got a majority of 131 seats.
