Contempt of Court: Daniyal Aziz disqualified for five years

Daniyal will not be able to contest general elections 2018.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 28th June, 2018) Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Daniyal Aziz has been disqualified for five years in the contempt of court case pending against him until the court rises.

The Supreme Court (SC) announced its reserved judgment in a contempt of court proceedings against PMLN leader Daniyal Aziz on Thursday.

According to the verdict, Daniyal will not be able to contest general elections 2018.

The court ruled that Aziz had attempted to malign the court in his speech and spread hatred in light of Section 2 (b) of Article 204 of the Constitution. The court also ruled that it deliberately showed leniency and did not send Aziz to jail for six months.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Mazhar Alam Kahn Miankhel will announce the verdict at 9 am, according to the Supplementary Cause List.

The verdict in high-profile case was reserved on May 3, after both prosecution and defendant concluded the arguments.

The case was initiated against Daniyal Aziz on February 2, over his alleged anti-judiciary speeches and remarks made during television shows.
