The PTI had earlier suggested the names of Hassan Askari and Nasir Durrani
Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 1st June, 2018) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has nominated Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi, Orya Maqbool Jan and Yaqoob Tahir Izhar for caretaker chief minister of Punjab.
Talking to media persons in Lahore on Friday, PTI leader Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed has said the matter will be resolved by Sunday as decided in the meeting with the speaker.
The time for another meeting with the speaker will be set and hopefully, a final decision will be made in Sunday’s meeting, he said.
The PTI leader said that the government said that they can agree to one of our names. He said that a meeting was held upon speaker’s request so that the deadlock can be ended.
He said that the Names suggested earlier were also given by the party leadership.
The PTI had earlier suggested the names of Hassan Askari and Nasir Durrani. However, after Durrani excused from assuming this charge, the PTI has nominated Orya Maqbool Jan and Yaqoob Tahir Izhar.
He said that we have suggested these names after consultation.
We believe that elections should be held as per schedule within 60 days. Timely elections are very important, he added.
The PTI had earlier suggested former bureaucrat Nasir Mahmood Khosa’s name for caretaker chief minister of Punjab. However, it took a U-turn and decided to withdraw the name of Nasir Khosa for the position. Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rashid said in a statement that the PTI had decided to take back the name of Nasir Khosa and would suggest another name after consultation with the party leadership.
The PTI then decided to nominate senior defence analyst Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi and former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP Nasir Durrani for the position of caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab after controversy with Nasir Mahmood Khosa.
However, the former KP IGP has excused from taking the charge citing health issues as the reason. Durrani said that his health does not allow him to fulfill these responsibilities.
The PTI has now suggested Orya Maqbool Jan and Yaqoob Tahir Izhar’s names along with Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi for the position.
