Lahore (Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2018) Pakistan’s renowned actress, model and singer Meesha Shafi accused fellow singer Ali Zafar of sexual harassment on micro-blogging website Twitter on Thursday, sparking a new debate in the country.
She said, “I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar.”
Almost everybody on social media is giving their views on the issue. Being called the #Metoo moment of Pakistan, the issue seizes to question the patriarchal structures of this society and the ugly face of showbiz industry.
Having said that, there is another side to the story. Within just three hours of her tweet, Meesha’s followers on Twitter increased from 30k to 90k and they are soon to cross 100k landmark, giving Meesha the kind of popularity and following she wouldn’t have got otherwise.
Meanwhile, Ali Zafar’s movie ‘Teefa in trouble’ is also set to release in July this year. Such a chatter about an artist before the release always sets the mood for the movie to hit the box office and attracts the audience even more.
