SC summons Fawad Chaudhry, PTI Kohat President in Asma Rani murder case

Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhary, Kohat district president Aftab Alam and home secretary in Asma Rani murder case.

ISLAMABAD,(Pakistan Point News - 06th Feb, 2018) : Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) spokesperson Fawad Chaudhary, Kohat district president Aftab Alam and home secretary in Asma Rani murder case. Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar remarked that all the men should appear before the court today even if the time goes to 8pm. During the hearing, the CJP inquired that why the district president has not been included in the investigation.

While expressing resentment, he maintained that “Fawad Chaudhry has always defended the KP police and called it exemplary while keeps on criticizing others.” “Has the mobile data of Mujahidullah Afridi and Shahzeb recovered? How long will the police take to bring Mujahid back from Dubai? Have the red warrants been issued? Can we send out the warrants?” questioned the CJP. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General (DG) Bashir Memon told court that it is still not confirmed whether the prime suspect Mujahidullah is in Dubai or Saudi Arabia.

“It appears that the murder was pre-planned. The suspects also possess an iqama from Dubai,” added Memon. The CJP asked whether any family member of Mujahid is present in the court. KP police authorities replied that they will present them in the court if any directives are issued in this regard. The Chief Justice while barring them said that the court will summon them honorably. Earlier, the police arrested Afridi’s brother Sadiqullah.

A third suspect Shahzeb accused of assisting Mujahidullah’s escape was also detained later and sent on a 14-day physical remand. Mujahidullah, nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) district president Aftab Alam, reportedly shot dead Asma after his marriage proposal was turned down. Asma received three bullets and was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. She had come home to meet her family in Kohat during session break. Late Asma recorded a statement at the hospital with the police in which she identified Mujahidullah Afridi as the man who fired at her.
