Thalo Zom is regarded as one of the most difficult and least-frequently climbed peaks in the Hindu Kush
PESHAWAR: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 28th, 2026) A nine-member mountaineering team has successfully scaled the 6,050-metre-high Thalo Zom peak in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, completing a challenging expedition through the rugged Hindu Kush mountain range.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority said that Thalo Zom is regarded as one of the most difficult and least-frequently climbed peaks in the Hindu Kush.
The expedition began on July 9, and after an arduous eight-day climb, the team reached the summit on July 17, where they hoisted the Pakistani flag.
During the expedition, the climbers traversed the remote and challenging routes of Kumrat and Chitral, crossing glaciers, snowfields and deep crevasses before reaching the summit.
The Tourism Authority said the successful ascent demonstrates the growing potential of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a destination for adventure tourism and high-altitude mountaineering.
The official records show that Thalo Zom was first climbed by an Australian expedition in 1971, while an Italian team completed the second recorded ascent in 2019.
