MUZAFFARABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 28th, 2026) The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has taken a commanding lead in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, winning eight of the 11 Constituencies declared so far, according to provisional and unofficial results.
Polling was held on Monday in 13 constituencies across the Mirpur Division, covering Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber districts.
Voting officially concluded at 5 p.m., with election authorities extending polling by one hour for voters already present at polling stations. Counting is still underway in the remaining two constituencies.
According to the latest unofficial results, PML-N has secured victories in LA-1 Mirpur-I, LA-4 Mirpur-IV, LA-5 Bhimber-I, LA-7 Bhimber-III, LA-9 Kotli-II, LA-11 Kotli-IV, LA-12 Kotli-V and LA-13 Kotli-VI.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won LA-2 Mirpur-II, LA-3 Mirpur-III and LA-8 Kotli-I.
Among the notable contests, PML-N’s Waqar Ahmed Noor defeated PPP’s Chaudhry Pervez Ashraf by approximately 700 votes in LA-5 Bhimber-I.
Vote counting continues in the two remaining constituencies.
In LA-6 Bhimber-II, PML-N candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Razzaq is leading after results from 100 of the 195 polling stations, while Ali Shan Chaudhry of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) is in second place.
In LA-10 Kotli-III, PPP candidate Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin is ahead based on results from 36 of the 169 polling stations, with PML-N’s Fateh Mahmood-ul-Hassan trailing.
The Election Commission is expected to announce the remaining unofficial results after the completion of vote counting.
