Trump says he no longer wants a deal with Iran, claims nuclear understanding is over

US president has expressed dissatisfaction with the alliance’s stance on both Iran and Greenland.

ANKARA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 8th, 2026) US President Donald Trump has said he no longer wants to pursue a deal with Iran, declaring that he believes the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries is effectively over.

Speaking to reporters after meeting NATO leadership in Ankara on Tuesday, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the alliance’s stance on both Iran and Greenland.

“I don’t want to make a deal with the Iranians,” Trump said, adding that he believes the understanding with Tehran has come to an end. He also claimed that the ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect.

The US president alleged that if Iran possessed nuclear weapons, it would use them, and reiterated that Washington’s objective is to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear capabilities.

Trump further claimed that US forces had carried out a major strike on Iranian targets overnight, saying Iran had been warned that any attack would be met with a forceful response. He stressed that the United States would continue efforts to ensure Iran remains without nuclear weapons.

Referring to Iran as “a cancer,” Trump said the threat should be eliminated before it grows, comparing the situation to removing cancer at an early stage. He also accused Iran of targeting multiple countries, including himself.

Meanwhile, international media reported that global oil prices surged by around five percent after Trump’s remarks declaring the end of the ceasefire with Iran, as investors reacted to renewed concerns over escalating tensions in the middle East.

The latest comments are expected to further heighten uncertainty over US-Iran relations and could have significant implications for regional security and global energy markets.
