Iran-US talks to resume after Khamenei's funeral, says Qatar

Qatari officials say negotiations have produced encouraging developments, paving the way for both sides to continue diplomatic engagement after the completion of the late Iranian leader's final rites

DOHA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 2nd, 2026) Indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States will resume after the funeral ceremonies of Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following positive progress in the latest round of talks held in Doha, Qatari authorities said.

Qatari officials said the negotiations have produced encouraging developments, paving the way for both sides to continue diplomatic engagement after the completion of the late Iranian leader's final rites.

Separately, Pakistan's Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistani and Qatari mediators held separate meetings in Doha with the Iranian and US negotiating teams. The discussions focused on issues related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and resulted in positive progress.

The spokesperson added that both Iran and the United States had agreed to continue negotiations in the coming days in an effort to build on the progress achieved during the latest round of indirect talks.

The renewed diplomatic engagement comes amid continued regional efforts to ease tensions between Tehran and Washington and strengthen the ceasefire framework reached following months of conflict. Negotiators are expected to reconvene after the funeral ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to advance discussions on the remaining issues.
