ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 29th, 2026) Pakistan on Monday summoned the Afghan Charge d'Affaires to lodge a strong protest over the recent terrorist attack on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi that claimed the lives of three Rangers personnel.
In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said the Afghan envoy was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a formal demarche was delivered over the incident.
He added that Pakistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, simultaneously conveyed an identical demarche to the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul.
According to the Foreign Office, the protest was lodged after preliminary investigations indicated that Afghan nationals, including one suspect arrested alive, were involved in the attack, which Pakistan said once again demonstrated that Afghan territory and nationals were being used to facilitate terrorist activities against Pakistan.
The attack occurred on Saturday when militants allegedly belonging to the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar targeted a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp in Karachi. Three Rangers personnel were martyred and four others sustained injuries.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attackers detonated explosives at the main entrance before attempting to storm the camp. Rangers personnel responded swiftly, killing three attackers and capturing one injured suspect, who was identified as an Afghan national.
The military's media wing described the attackers as militants belonging to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, which it termed an Indian proxy organisation. A clearance operation was subsequently launched to ensure no additional militants remained in the area.
Following the attack, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed the provincial police chief and Karachi's additional inspector general of police to submit a detailed report, while Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar also sought an immediate briefing on the incident.
The ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue counterterrorism operations under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism and vowed that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, expressed condolences to the families of the martyred Rangers personnel, saying their sacrifices strengthened the nation's resolve to defend Pakistan against terrorism.
