Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), however, acquits Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the same case registered against 22 individuals
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 20th, 2026) Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Ejaz Chaudhry and Umar Sarfraz Cheema have been awarded 10-year sentence each in another case regarding May 9 riots.
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul delivered the judgment at Kot Lakhpat Jail, where the trial was conducted.
The court, however, acquitted the former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
According to the verdict, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Ejaz Chaudhry and Umar Sarfraz Cheema were each handed 10-year jail terms in a case related to the burning of police vehicles in Mughalpura during the May 9 unrest.
However, the court acquitted Shah Mahmood Qureshi of all charges in the same case.
The case was registered against 22 accused individuals. During the proceedings, the prosecution completed cross-examination of 37 witnesses, while two accused persons were declared proclaimed offenders.
The court announced its decision regarding 15 accused in total.
The verdict comes amid a series of trials arising from the May 9, 2023 unrest, which saw widespread protests and attacks on state and military installations following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
