Pakistan to fully digitize passport system, introduce home delivery service

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi says adoption of modern technology would not only enhance efficiency but also provide better and faster services to citizens

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 19th, 2026) The federal government has decided to fully digitize the passport issuance system, with preparations for a home delivery service also nearing completion, officials said on Thursday.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Passport and Immigration Headquarters, where a series of reforms aimed at modernising the system were approved.

During the meeting, it was agreed in principle to transition the entire passport issuance process to e-passports. Officials said the move would help eliminate the possibility of fraud and forgery while improving transparency in the system.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the adoption of modern technology would not only enhance efficiency but also provide better and faster services to citizens.

The meeting also decided that applicants opting for premium passport services would be required to pay charges equivalent to the actual cost of issuance.

Officials informed the meeting that initial arrangements for home delivery of passports, both within the country and abroad, have been completed. The service will be launched soon, allowing citizens to receive passports at their doorstep.

It was further decided that a cashless payment system will be introduced in all passport offices across the country from July 1.

In addition, online passport applications will be shifted to the Pak ID platform to make the process more streamlined and user-friendly.

The interior minister directed authorities to finalise the business passport policy in consultation with the Federal board of Revenue (FBR) at the earliest.

Director General Passports and Immigration Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed the minister on ongoing reforms and future initiatives during the meeting.
