LHC Refers Hania Killing Probe Request to FIA Chief for Decision

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan hears the case during which officials from the Crime Control Department (CCD) and police authorities appeared before the court

RAWALPINDI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 19th, 2026) The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has referred a petition seeking a Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) inquiry into the death of nine-year-old Hania in Chakwal to the agency’s director general for further consideration.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan heard the case on Friday, during which officials from the Crime Control Department (CCD) and police authorities appeared before the court.

During the proceedings, police informed the court that a criminal case had already been registered in connection with the incident and that the alleged suspect had been taken into custody.

The petition relates to the death of Hania, an Australian-Pakistani child who was fatally wounded during a firing incident involving CCD personnel in Chakwal on June 10. According to reports, the family was visiting the district when CCD officials allegedly opened fire on their vehicle after mistaking it for one being used by suspected robbers. The child sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

After hearing the arguments, the court disposed of the petition and directed the FIA director general to examine the application and make a decision in accordance with the law.

Representing the petitioner, Advocate Mian Asif Mahmood argued that Hania lost her life as a result of CCD firing. He further noted that authorities had claimed two suspected robbers were also killed during the same operation.

The lawyer contended that the incident effectively constituted a triple homicide case and warranted an independent investigation by the FIA.

He told the court that an impartial inquiry could not be conducted by the CCD because the department itself was directly linked to the incident under investigation.

Following the submissions, the court instructed the FIA chief to decide the matter in line with legal requirements.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination revealed that Hania suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The report documented 11 bullet-related injuries and stated that vital organs, including the heart, lungs, liver, chest and abdomen, sustained severe damage.
