Ethics and moral values must guide every sphere of life, says Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 19th, 2026) Former Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman (R) emphasized that true leadership is reflected not merely in words but in actions, urging the younger generation to uphold ethical values, honesty and strong work ethics.
He was addressing the Ethical Leadership Award Ceremony organized by the Lahore school of Management at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol attended the prestigious event, while Executive Committee Member Rana Shouban Akhtar was also present.
The ceremony brought together eminent personalities from academia, industry and public service and celebrated the values of ethical leadership, integrity and excellence. Among those present were Professor Dr. Ali Sajjad, Director LMDA Training and Lahore School of Management, Vice Chancellor UET Lahore Dr. Shahid Munir, Engineer Jawad Saleem Qureshi, Dr. Nizam, Dr. Muzaffar Abbas and Major General (R) Saleem Ud Din Mian.
LCCI President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol, in his remarks, underscored the importance of ethics and morality in every aspect of life. He said that ethical values, integrity and responsible conduct are fundamental for sustainable progress and should guide individuals, institutions and businesses alike.
Addressing the audience, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman (R) said that while education had always remained a national priority, society had gradually neglected tarbiyah (character-building), resulting in a decline in ethical values. He remarked, “It is not important what you tell people; what matters is what you do before them.”
Sharing example from his Pakistan Air Force career, Sohail Aman narrated the story of an instructor pilot who voluntarily admitted crossing the prescribed limit during a competition despite knowing that it would cost him the prestigious “Sher-e-Afghan” title. “I would rather spend my life with honour and integrity than carry the burden of a lie to my grave,” the pilot had said. Sohail Aman remarked that such values, more than technology and advanced weaponry, are what make institutions truly great.
He said that work ethics should be treated as a form of worship and emphasized that honesty means performing one’s duties with complete responsibility, whether someone is watching or not. “If we can instill in our people the belief that Allah Almighty is watching us at all times, our society can transform,” he observed.
Speaking on leadership, he remarked that while many people can become leaders, no one can surpass a mother in leadership qualities. He stressed that work ethics should be visible in society and that inculcating these values among youth is not only essential for national development but also an integral part of faith.
On the occasion, awards were presented to several distinguished personalities in recognition of their services and contributions. Among the recipients were Dr. Amir Gillani, Dr. Kamran Moosa, Farzana Shahid, Pervaiz Mughal, Tahir Shamshad, Major General (R) Saleem Ud Din Mian, Professor Bisharat, Javed Akhtar, Engineer Javed Saleem Qureshi, Aijaz Nisar and renowned poet Abbas Tabish.
The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting ethical leadership and excellence across society.
