PIA bans in-flight smoking for cabin crew, restricts carrying tobacco items

Under new policy, flight attendants and cabin crew have been prohibited from smoking while on duty, including at hotels and public places during official assignments

KARACHI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 18th, 2026) Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has imposed a strict ban on smoking by cabin crew members during duty hours, according to a new directive issued by the airline’s management.

Under the new policy, flight attendants and cabin crew have been prohibited from smoking while on duty, including at hotels and public places during official assignments. The directive also bars crew members from carrying cigarettes, cigars, or any tobacco-related products in their hand luggage or other baggage while on duty.

The airline has instructed all cabin crew to strictly comply with the new code of conduct, emphasizing professional discipline and workplace ethics during flight operations and layovers.

Earlier this year on January 22, the customs authorities recovered a large number of expensive mobile phones from PIA cabin crew members during a flight operation from Dubai to Multan.

According to customs officials, the recovery included 78 high-end mobile phones. The individuals reportedly linked to the case included cabin crew members and senior in-flight staff. Acting on prior intelligence, customs officials initially recovered 24 iPhones from two female flight attendants.

Following their questioning, three male crew members were called back from a hotel, leading to the recovery of an additional 54 iPhones.

Authorities said all individuals allegedly involved in the case were taken into custody, and further investigation was initiated into the matter.
