SYLHET: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 16th, 2026) Pakistan’s pace attack kept Bangladesh under sustained pressure on the opening day of the second Test at the Sylhet International cricket Stadium on Saturday, with Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad sharing six wickets between them.
At tea, Bangladesh reached 168 for 6, with Litton Das unbeaten on 42 and Taijul islam on 11 after staging a crucial recovery in the final phase of the second session.
The hosts endured a dramatic collapse earlier in the day, losing three key wickets—captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (29), Mushfiqur Rahim (23) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (4)—in quick succession. The setback reduced Bangladesh to 116 for 6 before Litton and Taijul steadied the innings with an unbroken 52-run stand for the seventh wicket.
Pakistan’s bowlers set the tone from the outset. Abbas struck in the very first over, dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy for a duck, while Khurram Shahzad and Abbas continued to apply pressure through disciplined line and length.
A brief resistance came from Tanzid Hasan (26) and Mominul Haque (22), who added 44 runs for the second wicket. However, Abbas and Shahzad broke through again to leave Bangladesh at 63 for 3 at one stage.
Shahzad later accounted for Mominul, while Abbas removed Tanzid, ensuring Pakistan maintained control through the morning session and into the afternoon.
Pakistan made three changes to their playing XI, with Babar Azam returning after injury. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Noman Ali were rested, making way for Khurram Shahzad and Sajid Khan.
Bangladesh entered the match leading the two-Test series 1-0 in the ICC World Test Championship cycle after their 104-run win in the first Test at Dhaka, where Pakistan were bowled out for 163 while chasing 268.
