The holidays of municipal employees and Suthra Punjab workers have been canceled till the last day of Eid
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 16th, 2026) A meeting chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique held at the Civil Secretariat reviewed the arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha and took necessary decisions. Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian and concerned municipal officers attended the meeting through video link. With the approval of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Local Government Department has issued guidelines for Eid-ul-Azha.
The holidays of municipal employees and Suthra Punjab workers have been canceled till the last day of Eid. The meeting also decided to fully activate temporary cattle sale points across Punjab by tomorrow (Sunday). On the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, no fee will be charged for buying and selling animals this year as well.
Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique said that the livestock markets and sale points of the Punjab Cattle Market Management Company will also provide facilities, while the municipal committee will also set up temporary sale points in every city. He stressed that illegal sale points and buying and selling on the roads should be strictly stopped. "Monitoring staff on motorcycles or cars will patrol in every city 24 hours. Announcements should be made through loudspeakers on rickshaws to guide the citizens", he urged. Zeeshan Rafique also said that banners should be displayed at prominent places regarding the availability of facilities at sale points.
He warned the concerned officers that action would be taken if any trader is seen outside the sale points holding animals taking rope in his hands. The provincial minister ordered the local media members to brief them on all Eid plans saying that in the light of the experience of the last two years, a better performance should be shown this time. He said that eco-friendly bags should be distributed after surveying the houses offering sacrifices. "In addition, awareness camps should be set up in every union council where the bags should be distributed in a transparent manner", he added. Zeeshan Rafique said that arrangements should be made for local burial of the offal in villages, however, if space is available in cities, pits should be dug, otherwise the offal should be shifted to dumping sites.
"Green cloth should be demarcated around the collection points for the offal", he directed. He said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved additional resources for Eid-ul-Azha. "Now it is our job to utilize these resources properly", he reminded. He said that immediate action should be taken on the complaints received in the central and district control rooms. "Moreover special attention should be paid to the places of collective sacrifice, the offal should be collected without any delay". He directed that those who throw the offal on the roads or in the drains will be fined.
On this occasion, Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmed Mian said that the municipal committees and Suthra Punjab agencies will work as a team. He directed that no cell point should be established anywhere except the place notified by the Deputy Commissioner. "Provision of parking, water and other facilities should be ensured at every cell point", he directed. Shakeel Ahmed said that a written instruction has also been sent by the Local Government Department. "There is no room for any laxity", warned th Secretary.
