Local authorities say blast occurred in a busy commercial area, causing widespread panic and destruction
LAKKI MARWAT: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-May 12nd, 2026) At least seven people, including police personnel, were killed and several others injured in a powerful blast in the Sarai Naurang Bazaar area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, the hospital and security officials said on Tuesday.
The local authorities said the blast occurred in a busy commercial area, causing widespread panic and destruction. Rescue officials confirmed that the explosion was highly intense, leaving multiple victims trapped in the aftermath.
The hospital sources confirmed that seven people have died so far, including two traffic police officials who were on duty at the time of the incident. More than 18 people sustained serious injuries, with several in critical condition. Women and children who were present in the market for shopping were also among the injured.
Immediately after the incident, heavy police contingents and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured and deceased to nearby hospitals. Emergency has been declared in all local hospitals, and medical staff have been recalled to handle the influx of casualties.
The officials warned that the death toll could rise further as several injured individuals remain in critical condition.
The security forces and police cordoned off the entire area soon after the blast and launched a search operation to collect evidence and trace those responsible. The investigators are currently probing the cause and nature of the explosion, including whether it was a suicide attack or an improvised explosive device (IED) blast.
