KARACHI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-April 13rd, 2026) Kusal Mendis’ explosive half-century and Sufiyan Muqeem’s three-wicket haul powered Peshawar Zalmi to a 24-run victory over Multan Sultans in the 22nd match of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at the National Bank Stadium on Monday.
Chasing a target of 197, Multan Sultans were restricted to 172/8 in their 20 overs, suffering their second defeat of the tournament.
Sultans’ innings got off to a poor start as in-form Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed early for 17 runs. Steve Smith and Josh Philippe attempted to rebuild with a 55-run partnership, but Muqeem struck twice in the 10th over to remove both set batters.
Philippe scored 32 off 17 balls, while Smith made 31 off 29 deliveries.
Shan Masood top-scored for Sultans with 35 off 19 balls, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals as Zalmi’s bowlers maintained pressure. Sufiyan Muqeem returned impressive figures of 3/30, while Iftikhar Ahmed and Nahid Rana took two wickets each.
Earlier, Zalmi posted 196/6 after opting to bat first. Mohammad Haris gave a fiery start with 38 off 17 balls, while Kusal Mendis anchored the innings with a brilliant 68 off 40 deliveries, hitting four fours and three sixes.
Babar Azam contributed 18, while Farhan Yousaf added a quick 30. Late contributions helped Zalmi reach a competitive total.
For Multan Sultans, Peter Siddle and Mohammad Ismail took two wickets each, while Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim Jr claimed one apiece.
