Chasing a target of 146 runs, Zalmi completed chase despite losing wickets at regular intervals, finishing contest in final over with key contributions from captain Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-April 8th, 2026) Peshawar Zalmi secured a convincing four-wicket victory over Hyderabad Kingsmen in the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) at the National Bank Stadium on Wednesday, marking their second win of the tournament.
Chasing a target of 146 runs, Zalmi completed the chase despite losing wickets at regular intervals, finishing the contest in the final over with key contributions from captain Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis.
The innings began cautiously as Mohammad Haris departed early for 11, leaving Zalmi under slight pressure at the start. Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis then steadied the innings with a composed partnership that guided the team past the early phase of the chase.
Mendis contributed a brisk 27 before being dismissed, while Babar anchored the innings with a steady 43, keeping the scoreboard moving alongside Michael Bracewell. Zalmi, however, faced brief setbacks as wickets fell in the middle overs, including Bracewell’s dismissal after a useful partnership.
Despite losing momentum at times, Zalmi maintained control of the chase. Iftikhar Ahmed played a finishing role with an unbeaten contribution, helping the side close in on the target. In the end, Zalmi reached the required total with four wickets in hand, sealing the win in the final over.
Batting first, Hyderabad Kingsmen were restricted to 145 runs in 18.2 overs. Their innings saw a mixed start, with openers putting on a short partnership before early breakthroughs put them under pressure.
Iftikhar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem led Zalmi’s bowling attack with exceptional performances, dismantling the opposition lineup with four wickets each. Their combined effort proved decisive in restricting Kingsmen to a below-par total. Aamer Jamal also contributed with a wicket.
Despite a resilient half-century from Kusal Perera, Hyderabad Kingsmen failed to build lasting partnerships and were eventually bowled out short of the 150-run mark, allowing Zalmi to comfortably chase down the target and secure the win.
