Two leaders discuss matters of mutual interest as well as issues related to regional peace and development
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Feb 13rd, 2026) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a telephone conversation with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman and congratulated him on his party’s decisive victory in the general elections.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister also congratulated the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the general elections and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh.
The two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest as well as issues related to regional peace and development.
They paid tribute to Begum Khaleda Zia for her services in promoting Pakistan–Bangladesh relations.
The statement said both leaders agreed to remain in contact and work together for the welfare of their respective peoples.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended an invitation to Tarique Rahman to visit Pakistan at an early date.
It is pertinent to note that the Bangladesh Election Commission has announced the official results of the parliamentary elections held a day earlier.
According to the results, the BNP secured a two-thirds majority by winning 212 of the 299 seats, while Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second-largest party with 77 seats.
