Senior politician Zaeem Qadri passes away in Lahore

Family sources say he unewernet treatment at a local private hosptial after suffering from heart problem

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Feb 13rd, 2026) Senior politician and former member of the Punjab Assembly Zaeem Qadri passed away on Friday after a brief illness.

The family sources said that Zaeem Qadri had been under treatment at a private hospital for the past three days due to a heart-related ailment.

His funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) will be offered today, Friday, February 13, 2026, at 6:30pm after Maghrib at his residence, 36 Lawrence Road, Lahore.

The political and social circles expressed grief over his passing away and paid him tribute for his services. They also extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Zaeem Qadri is survived by his widow, Syeda Uzma Sadaf Qadri, and his son, Syed Ali Qadri.

Born in Lahore, Zaeem Qadri remained an influential figure in Punjab politics for over a decade. He was elected as a member of the Punjab Assembly from 2008 to 2018 and held several key positions during his political career.

He served as a provincial minister, adviser to then Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and spokesperson for the Punjab government, playing an active role in policy matters and political communication.

He obtained his LL.B. degree in 1988 from Quaid-e-Azam Law College and later earned an MBA in 1991 from the Canadian school of Management Sciences.

In 2016, he joined the Punjab cabinet as Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs. However, in 2018, he parted ways with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz following internal party differences and contested the general elections as an independent candidate.

Zaeem Qadri was also known for his strong political stance on national and religious issues. In 2006, he was briefly detained during protests over the Jyllands-Posten caricatures controversy.
