In the Group A match played in Colombo, the United States won the toss and elected to field, inviting Pakistan to bat first.
Pakistan posted a total of 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sahibzada Farhan was the standout performer, scoring a brilliant 73 runs. Saif Ayub and Farhan had provided a solid opening partnership of 54 runs, but Ayub was dismissed for 19, and captain Salman Ali Agha fell for just one run shortly after. Farhan and Babar Azam played attractive shots, with Babar scoring 46 runs off 32 balls before getting out. Farhan was eventually dismissed for 73, while Shadab Khan contributed a quick 30 runs off 12 balls. For the United States, Shedley Van Shak took 4 wickets.
Chasing a target of 191, the United States got off to a promising start with an opening partnership of 42 runs. However, Andries Gous was dismissed for 13, followed by Monak Patel, who was out for 3 runs. Shyan Jahangir (49) and Shubham Ranjane (51) were the main contributors for the US, while Milind Kumar added 29 runs. Despite their efforts, the US managed only 158 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.
