Under proposed plan, electricity rates are expected to be reduced for domestic consumers using more than 300 and up to 700 units per month
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Feb 7th, 2026) The Federal government on Saturday proposed a reduction in the electricity base tariff along with a comprehensive revision of fixed charges for domestic, commercial and industrial consumers, aiming to provide relief to high-consumption households while expanding fixed charges to lower-consumption categories.
Under the proposed plan, electricity rates are expected to be reduced for domestic consumers using more than 300 and up to 700 units per month.
At the same time, the government has suggested imposing fixed charges on household consumers using up to 300 units per month as well.
The proposal seeks to apply fixed charges to both protected and non-protected consumers. Previously, fixed charges were imposed only on non-protected consumers using more than 300 units per month.
The proposal suggested that the protected domestic consumers using up to 100 units per month will face fixed charges of Rs200, while those consuming up to 200 units will be charged Rs300.
For non-protected consumers, fixed charges of Rs275 have been proposed for monthly consumption of up to 100 units, Rs300 for up to 200 units, and Rs350 for up to 300 units.
In addition, the government has proposed increasing fixed charges for non-protected consumers using up to 400 units per month from Rs200 to Rs400, for 500 units from Rs400 to Rs500, and for 600 units from Rs600 to Rs675.
The proposal further suggests reducing fixed charges for consumers using up to 700 units per month from Rs800 to Rs675. For those consuming more than 700 units per month, a reduction of Rs325 in fixed charges has been proposed, bringing them down to Rs675 as well.
Regarding per-unit tariffs, the government has proposed a reduction of Rs1.53 per unit for domestic consumers using up to 400 units per month, Rs1.25 per unit for consumption of up to 500 units, Rs1.40 per unit for up to 600 units, and Rs0.91 per unit for consumers using up to 700 units. Consumers using more than 700 units per month are proposed to receive a reduction of Rs0.49 per unit.
The proposal also includes a reduction of Rs1.15 per unit for commercial consumers with a load of 5 kilowatts and above, while the industrial sector is expected to receive relief of up to Rs5 per unit.
After securing approval from the federal cabinet, the Power Division has submitted the proposal to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which is due to conduct a hearing on the matter on February 10.
