Imran Khan’s eye condition required injection rather than surgery, says Law Minister Tarar

Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar tells Senate that Imran Khan’s health is stable and that the procedure has been successful

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Feb 3rd, 2026) Federal Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar told the Senate that Imran Khan’s health was stable and that the procedure had been successful.

Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar clarified that the eye condition required an injection rather than surgery and that no further complications had been reported.

He said that the eye procedure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan could have been carried out at Adiala Jail Hospital, but he was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Khan’s own request.

During the Senate session, Leader of the Opposition Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas alleged that Imran Khan’s family had not been informed about his illness, calling it a violation of his rights as both a citizen and a prisoner. He questioned why the PTI founder was being deprived of access to doctors of his choice.

Raja Nasir Abbas warned that Imran Khan’s eyesight could be at risk and urged the government to allow him to be examined by physicians of his preference, accusing the authorities of negligence.

Senator Ali Zafar also raised concerns, stating that the medical report issued by PIMS had not satisfied their experts. He demanded that two independent specialists be granted access to examine Imran Khan and called on the Senate to direct the hospital to release the medical report so it could be made public.

The minister added that Imran Khan’s treatment could have been provided at Adiala Jail Hospital, but he had requested to be taken to PIMS, citing potential law and order concerns and asking to be transported in the evening.

Referring to a past incident, Tarar recalled that when Rana Sanaullah was arrested while on his way to a hospital in Lahore, a magistrate had remanded him into judicial custody and, on the then prime minister’s directions, he was not allowed access to a jail doctor. He said the current prime minister had issued no such directive in Imran Khan’s case and remained committed to upholding human rights.
