TTAP leaders visit Mazari House, where they meet Dr Shireen Mazari, former federal minister and mother of Imaan Mazari, and express full solidarity with family
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 26th, 2026) Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain Pakistan (TTAP) chief and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, on Monday said the opposition may launch a “jail bharo” (court arrest) movement following the sentencing of Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chatha.
TTAP leaders visited Mazari House, where they met Dr Shireen Mazari, former Federal minister and mother of Imaan Mazari, and expressed full solidarity with the family.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Achakzai, along with Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, strongly condemned the verdict.
“We may even announce a jail bharo movement. Then we will see how many people they can put behind bars,” Achakzai said.
Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar alleged that authoritarianism had been imposed on the country, adding that recent court decisions reflected attempts to turn Pakistan into “another North Korea or Egypt.”
“The reality is that they do not want anyone in this country to raise their voice for rights. If someone does, they are silenced,” he said, adding that a strong protest would be recorded on February 8.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said the delegation had come to express solidarity with Dr Shireen Mazari, claiming that lawlessness was on the rise and institutions were being weakened.
He said the party had serious concerns over the manner in which the trial of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha was conducted, describing both the proceedings and the sentencing as unjust.
Barrister Gohar reiterated his party’s opposition to the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), condemning the verdict and adding that the family had not yet been able to contact Imaan Mazari or arrange a meeting with her.
“Where people do not get justice, they end up taking the law into their own hands,” he said, expressing hope that the Chief Justice of Pakistan would take notice of the matter.
He demanded that the sentences awarded to Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha be set aside, calling for their release and a fair retrial.
