ICC dismisses Bangladesh's security concerns, confirms T20 World Cup in India

ICC emphasises that changing tournament's schedule so close to event will not be practical

DUBAI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 21st, 2026) The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday officially dismissed Bangladesh's security concerns and reaffirmed that the T20 World Cup will proceed according to the original schedule, with all of Bangladesh's matches set to take place in India.
In an official statement, the ICC clarified that after a thorough security review conducted during a recent board meeting, it was determined that there are no security risks for Bangladesh’s players, officials, media personnel,or fans at any of the venues in India.

The ICC emphasized that changing the tournament's schedule so close to the event would not be practical.

The statement further confirmed that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been kept up to date with the security plans and has been assured of the safety arrangements in place for the World Cup.

Bangladesh Threatens to Skip World Cup Matches in India

Meanwhile, a cricket news website has reported that the ICC is prepared to replace Bangladesh with another team if the BCB decides to withdraw from the tournament due to security concerns.

According to the website, the ICC has informed the BCB that if the Bangladesh government decides against sending the team to India, the board would need to notify the ICC, which would then consider replacing Bangladesh with another nation.
The dispute arose when Bangladesh raised concerns over security and requested that their World Cup matches, scheduled to be held in India, be moved to Sri Lanka. These concerns intensified after the IPL’s Kolkata Knight Riders removed Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their squad following threats from Hindu extremist groups in India.

This incident led to heightened tensions between the two cricket boards, prompting the BCB to call an emergency meeting and announce its reluctance to send the team to India.
The ICC has yet to receive an official response from the BCB regarding the team’s participation, but the situation continues to evolve as the start of the World Cup approaches.
The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin in India this year, with Bangladesh's participation still uncertain. The ICC is working diligently to ensure the tournament proceeds smoothly and that all participating teams are able to compete in a secure environment.
