No PTI leader allowed to meet Imran Khan in Adiala Jail: spokesperson

Niazullah Niazi says Tuesday was scheduled as the day for friends and party leaders to meet Imran Khan in jail

RAWALPINDI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 15th, 2026) No leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was allowed to meet party founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail on Tuesday while two leaders whose Names were included in the meeting list did not turn up at the jail, PTI founder’s spokesperson Niazullah Niazi said.

Niazullah Niazi said that Tuesday was scheduled as the day for friends and party leaders to meet Imran Khan in jail. Of the six leaders on the approved list, four — Niazullah Niazi, Senator Falak Naz, Inamullah Khan Yousafzai and Safdar Hussain — arrived at Adiala Jail, but none was granted permission to meet the PTI founder.

The remaining two leaders on the list, Imran Shaukat and Saad Ali Khan, did not reach the jail.

Speaking to the media at the Dahgal checkpoint on Adiala Road, Niazullah Niazi said that no party leader was allowed to meet Imran Khan, adding that due to the denial of meetings, they were unaware of the PTI founder’s condition. He said that no one had been allowed to meet Imran Khan for the past four weeks.

Niazi said that despite clear orders from a larger bench of the Islamabad High Court to facilitate meetings, no meetings were being allowed — neither with family members, nor lawyers, nor party leadership. He added that no one was being allowed to meet Bushra Bibi either, stressing that under the law, a prisoner has the right to meet family members at least twice a week.

He further said that contempt of court petitions filed by them were pending in different courts. “After the 26th constitutional amendment, the judiciary has been placed completely under the executive,” he claimed, adding that even the prime minister says he would first inquire whether a meeting would be allowed or not.

Niazullah Niazi said that he had never spoken against any military institution, yet he was also being denied permission to meet Imran Khan. “I am the spokesperson of the PTI founder. Why am I being stopped from meeting him?” he asked, adding that when Nawaz Sharif was in jail, all party leaders were allowed to meet him.

He said Imran Khan had clearly stated that any post made from his X (formerly Twitter) account would be written by Niazullah Niazi. He added that Imran Khan, a former prime minister and World Cup-winning captain, had the right to engage in political discussions.

The PTI founder’s spokesperson said that Imran Khan wanted to meet the party leadership to discuss the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to give policy guidance. “Every leader has his own policy,” he said, adding that Imran Khan wanted to convey policy directions to his party leaders.

Niazi said PTI was not at war with any institution, adding that the Constitution of Pakistan clearly defines the limits of every institution. He questioned whether the PTI founder’s policies were not aimed at saving the country.

He said that he had informed Imran Khan that he would post political statements on his X account. “There is no bigger crime than stealing votes. Our mandate was stolen,” he claimed, adding that the statement of the former Rawalpindi commissioner was on record.

Niazullah Niazi said that the PTI wanted accountability in the country so that it could move forward.

“We do not want democracy to be derailed,” he said, adding that transparent and fair elections should be held, after which whoever secures the public mandate should form the government.

He said that on one side was the PTI founder’s ideology, and on the other a system that has existed for the past 77 years.
