Commuters face difficulties as major motorways have been closed due to dense fog
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 10th, 2026) Dense fog continued to disrupt normal life across Punjab, upper Sindh and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, leading to the closure of several key motorways and causing difficulties for commuters.
Authorities said traffic was suspended on the M-1 motorway from Swabi to Peshawar due to extremely low visibility. The M-2 remained closed from Thokar Niaz Baig to Balkasar, while the M-3 was shut from Faizpur to Samundri. Similarly, traffic on the M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad was halted as a precautionary measure.
In addition, the M-5 motorway from Shershah to Sukkur and the M-11 from Lahore to Sambrial were also closed to ensure public safety amid persistent foggy conditions.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that Skardu recorded the lowest temperature in the country during the past 24 hours, with the mercury dropping to minus 12 degrees Celsius. Karachi’s minimum temperature during the same period was recorded at 9 degrees Celsius.
The PMD has advised motorists to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during early morning and night hours, and follow traffic advisories until weather conditions improve.
