‎ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 10th, 2025) A decision has been taken to urgently implement a comprehensive plan to address water shortages in Islamabad.

As part of this strategy, the CDA and Punjab Government will jointly construct dams for the twin cities.

‎Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi presided over an important meeting aimed at overcoming the water crisis in Islamabad. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and the Prime Minister’s Advisor Syed Tauqir Shah specially attended.

‎Short-term and long-term measures to increase water supply to Islamabad and Rawalpindi were evaluated.

‎Progress on the construction of small dams and water reservoirs was reviewed in detail.

‎The meeting also discussed proposals for removing deficiencies in the existing water supply system in Islamabad.

‎It emphasized the need for an effective distribution mechanism and the identification of flaws in the current water network.

‎WAPDA and CDA presented options, feasibility findings, and expected timelines for enhancing water availability.

‎Comprehensive briefings were given on Chirah, Dotara, and Shahdara Dam schemes.‎

‎Mohsin Naqvi demanded a detailed implementation roadmap within 10 days and instructed authorities to expedite all necessary actions to practically initiate these projects on ground.

‎It was decided that the Dotara Dam with a storage capacity of 110 MGD will be completed in two years.

‎The Interior Minister ordered a strict crackdown on water theft and illegal water connections. He stated that ensuring water availability for residents of the twin cities is a top priority, directing immediate and effective steps to secure the required supply.

‎“Under the short-term plan, all available resources must be utilized to guarantee water provision,” he added.

‎The meeting was attended by the Secretary Interior, Additional Secretary Interior, Chairman CDA, Commissioner Rawalpindi, CDA Members, and other senior officials.
