LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 6th, 2026) Punjab recorded a total of 625 extortion cases in 2025, the official figures showed on Tuesday.

The Counter Crime Division (CCD) compiled detailed reports from various cities to identify active extortionist groups.

Multan reported the highest number of incidents with 70 cases, followed closely by Lahore with 68 cases. Faisalabad and Bahawalpur each saw 38 cases, while Muzaffargarh reported 37 incidents involving active criminals.

Other major cities affected included Kasur (29 cases), Sheikhupura (26 cases), Rawalpindi (26 cases) and Gujranwala (22 cases).

The authorities warned that strict action would be taken against individuals involved in extortion, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to tackling organized crime.

Last year in December, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab arrested 24 terrorists during intelligence-based operations across the province,thwarting a major terror plot.

According to report,the arrests,made in cities including Lahore and Faisalabad,resulted in the recovery of explosives,weapons and banned materials.

The suspects were linked to banned groups and were planning to target sensitive buildings.

The CTD conducted 5,604 combing operations,checking over 229,000 individuals and arresting 501 suspects. Investigations were ongoing and citizens are urged to report suspicious activity via the CTD helpline.
