Political and religious leaders express grief
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 5th, 2026) Renowned Islamic scholar and Patron-in-Chief of Jamia Ashrafia, Maulana Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi, has passed away, triggering an outpouring of grief from political, religious, and social leaders across the country.
Maulana Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi was the Patron of Wafaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia Pakistan and served as Sheikh-ul-Hadith and former Mohtamim (principal) of Jamia Ashrafia. He had thousands of students not only in Pakistan but across the world.
His funeral prayers were offered after Zuhr prayers at Jamia Ashrafia Lahore, where a large number of religious scholars, spiritual leaders, ministers, political and social figures, as well as members of the public, attended.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, former federal minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, and several other political and social leaders expressed deep sorrow and condolences over his demise.
In his condolence message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Maulana Fazlur Rahim Ashrafi was a highly respected religious scholar, an eminent Hadith expert, and a towering figure who rendered outstanding services for the promotion of religious education. He added that the late scholar devoted his entire life to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah, the promotion of Islamic values, and moral training, benefiting countless students and scholars.
