Court seeks replies from National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Imran Khan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Jan 1st, 2026) The Islamabad High Court has scheduled the hearing of PTI founder Imran Khan’s petition seeking the suspension of his X (formerly Twitter) account for January 21.
The court has directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Imran Khan, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to submit their responses ahead of the hearing.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court issued a written order in the case following a petition filed by citizen Ghulam Murtaza, which requests the removal of posts from Imran Khan’s X account during his imprisonment, declaring them illegal.
The petition argues that posts made from an official account of a convicted prisoner during incarceration, which contain propaganda or malicious content, are unlawful. It calls for NCCIA and PTA to investigate and determine who was operating the account while Imran Khan was in jail.
The petition further requests that all such illegal posts be blocked and removed from social media platforms.
In response to a court notice, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail denied that Imran Khan’s X account was being operated from inside the prison. The official stated that the account is operated from outside the jail and that no mobile or internet facilities are available to the PTI founder inside the facility.
The superintendent noted that under jail rules and judicial orders, no prohibited items, including mobile phones, are allowed, and mobile signals are blocked both inside and in areas adjacent to the prison using signal jammers.
The jail authorities also stated that under Jail Rule 265, Imran Khan is restricted from engaging in political discussions, and that visits by family or lawyers comply with legal protocols. Any political conversations during such meetings would constitute a violation of law. The authorities emphasized that Imran Khan is under strict surveillance and both he and the staff assigned to him are regularly searched.
The case has attracted attention amid ongoing scrutiny of social media activity linked to the PTI founder during his imprisonment.
