Shah Mhamood Qureshi has been set free in May 9 case
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 19th, 2025) An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday sentenced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Umar Sarfraz Cheema and Mian Mahmood ur Rashid to 10 years’ imprisonment each in the May 9 violence case related to the attack on the GOR Club Chowk gate.
ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill announced the verdict at Kot Lakhpat Jail.
The court had reserved its judgment on December 18.
According to court records, challans were submitted against 25 accused in the case, while four suspects were declared proclaimed offenders during the trial.
A total of 56 prosecution witnesses recorded their statements during the proceedings.
The case was registered by Race Course police regarding the attack on the GOR Club Chowk gate.
As per the FIR, the accused vandalised security cameras installed at the gate, damaged police wireless equipment and gate glass, caused damage to government property, and assaulted police personnel.
The FIR further stated that the mob, allegedly led by PTI leader Hammad Azhar, carried out the attack.
The accused named in the case included Dr Yasmin Rashid, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Umar Sarfraz Cheema, Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mahmood ur Rashid. PTI leaders were charged with inciting party workers to violence and unrest during the May 9 incidents.
