Devon Conway, Tom Latham break World Test Championship opening record

Achievement comes on first day of final Test in three-match series against West Indies at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui

Mount Maunganui: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 18th, 2025) New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Tom Latham set a new record in the World Test Championship with the highest-ever opening partnership.

The achievement came on the first day of the final Test in the three-match series against West Indies at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. After winning the toss, New Zealand chose to bat, and Conway and Latham delivered a remarkable performance.

By the end of the day, New Zealand was 334 for 1. Conway remained unbeaten on 178, while his captain and opening partner Latham scored 137 runs. Together, they put on 323 runs for the first wicket, setting a new World Test Championship record for the highest opening partnership.

This surpasses the previous record of 317 runs set by India’s Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal against South Africa in 2019.
