Defense Ministry notifies Field Marshal Asim Munir as country’s first CDF

Ministry of Defence also extends tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sudhu

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 5th, 2025) The Ministry of Defence on Friday issued official notifications for the appointment of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and for the extension of tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sudhu.

The official statement said that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s appointment as CDS will be for a tenure of five years.

The ministry also issued a notification extending the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sudhu as head of the Pakistan Air Force for an additional two years. The presidential approval for this extension was granted earlier, with the extended tenure set to begin on March 19, 2026.

Just a day ago, President Arif Alvi had approved the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as CDS on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Following the presidential approval, the Ministry of Defence has now formally issued the notification for his appointment.
