LHC grants bail to Mirza Muhammad Ali in religious hate case

Justice Sadaqat Khan of LHC Rawalpindi bench allows bail and directs Mirza Muhammad Ali to furnish two surety bonds of Rs500,000 each

LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Dec 3rd, 2025) The Rawalpindi Bench of the High Court has approved bail for engineer Mirza Muhammad Ali in a case involving allegations of religious hate, and ordered his immediate release.

Justice Sadaqat Khan of the Rawalpindi Bench allowed the bail and directed Mirza Muhammad Ali to furnish two surety bonds of Rs500,000 each.

The FIA Cyber Crime Wing had registered a case against Mirza Muhammad Ali over alleged blasphemous content.

According to the FIA lawyer, a formal fatwa against the accused had already been issued. The court observed that the fatwa and other evidence would be considered by the trial court while arguments before the High Court would be limited to the matter of bail.

Meanwhile, Mirza Muhammad Ali has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court challenging the FIA investigation. Filed through advocate Nabeel Javed Kahlon, the petition listed the FIA and the Punjab Quran board as respondents.

In the petition, Mirza Muhammad Ali contended that the FIA had started investigations without issuing him any notice and had sent a video from social media to the Punjab Quran Board for a fatwa. He argued that the Board wrongly declared him guilty based on an old video and that it does not have the authority to issue fatwas, as its role is limited to overseeing the publication of the Quran.

The petitioner asked the court to nullify the fatwa issued against him and to halt the ongoing investigation.
