Party officials say decision has been finalised after consultations within PPP leadership, which subsequently directed all its lawmakers to immediately reach Muzaffarabad to ensure full participation in upcoming vote
MUZAFFARABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Nov 14th, 2025) The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday submitted a no-confidence motion against Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq, triggering a fresh political showdown in the region.
The party officials said the decision was finalised after consultations within the PPP leadership, which subsequently directed all its lawmakers to immediately reach Muzaffarabad to ensure full participation in the upcoming vote.
The PPP also nominated its AJK chapter’s Secretary General, Faisal Rathore, as its candidate for the office of prime minister should the motion succeed. His nomination was formally announced by Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Chaudhry Yasin during a press conference in Islamabad.
Under the AJK Constitution, once a no-confidence motion is submitted, the Legislative Assembly must convene a session within three to seven days to conduct voting on the move.
The sources said Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq has decided to strongly contest the motion. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has pledged support to the PPP in the no-confidence bid.
According to the insiders, the motion had been delayed earlier due to constitutional amendments being undertaken in Pakistan.
A simple majority of 27 votes is required for the motion to pass. However, the PPP claims it has secured the support of more than 40 members in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
