President Asif Ali Zardari administered oath at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, federal ministers and senior civil and military leadership
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-Nov 14th, 2025) Justice Aminuddin Khan took oath as the first Chief Justice of the newly established Constitutional Court on Thursday.
President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, federal ministers and senior civil and military leadership. Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, along with the heads of the Pakistan Navy and Air Force, also participated in the ceremony. Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan were present as well.
Justice Aminuddin becomes the first head of the Federal Constitutional Court, which will exclusively hear all constitutional matters.
Justice Aminuddin’s Career Overview
Justice Aminuddin completed his LLB from University Law College Multan in 1984 and received his licence to practise in 1985. He became an advocate of the Lahore High Court in 1987 and later of the Supreme Court in 2001. As a judge of the Lahore High Court, he served on the syndicates of various universities and delivered thousands of civil judgments at the Bahawalpur, Multan and Lahore benches. He was elevated to the Supreme Court on 21 October 2019, where he also became the first head of the apex court’s constitutional bench.
His appointment as Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court was approved by President Zardari a day earlier on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Oath-Taking of Six Constitutional Court Judges Today
According to sources, arrangements have been finalised for the oath-taking ceremony of six judges of the Constitutional Court. The ceremony will take place in the open area between the judges’ block and the administration block of the Islamabad High Court. Justice Aminuddin will administer the oath to the newly appointed judges.
Earlier, Justice Aminuddin will take his own oath as Chief Justice at Aiwan-e-Sadr at around 11am. Sources said President Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and federal ministers will attend both ceremonies.
