Forest Department and citizens plant 10,000 trees in Karol Forest to curb pollution and improve air quality.
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Nov,13, 2025) In a major step to combat rising smog levels, the Forest Department, in collaboration with local communities, has planted 10,000 trees in Karol Forest.
According to details, the trees were planted on 14 acres of barren land that had remained unused for years. The initiative was carried out with active public participation and special teams from the Forest Department.
A climate-conscious citizen from Pakpattan donated 10,000 saplings to Lahore, which were planted in Karol Forest as part of a long-term effort to improve air quality.
Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb lauded the citizen’s contribution and conferred upon him the title of “Green Ambassador.” She said the effort reflects not only environmental responsibility but also a national, social, and religious duty.
Public participation in tree plantation is gaining momentum across Lahore, as citizens plant trees around their homes and neighborhoods to help reduce smog and pollution. The campaign combines scientific, social, and spiritual motivation for environmental protection.
During the plantation drive, local species such as peepal, neem, and jamun trees were planted. Experts note that trees absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and naturally reduce pollution and smog particles while improving rainfall patterns and preventing soil erosion.
Maryam Aurangzeb emphasized that tree plantation has become a symbol of environmental preservation, public health, and social unity and is also a Sunnah and a continuing act of charity (Sadaqah Jariyah) with lasting rewards for generations.
