Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan has entered the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), marking a new chapter in regional connectivity and infrastructure development.
Addressing the closing session of the Regional Transport Ministers’ Conference in Islamabad, the prime minister said the region has long served as a hub for connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative, with Pakistan’s Gwadar Port and Karachi Port playing vital roles in the Maritime Silk Road.
He said Pakistan is investing heavily in digital infrastructure and working on major regional projects such as the Trans-Afghan Railway and the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul Corridor, adding that improved regional linkages will bring an “economic and trade revolution.”
Shehbaz emphasized that the transformation of global transport and connectivity systems presents a key opportunity for Pakistan to enhance trade and cooperation with neighboring and regional partners.
