PMD forecasts warmer-than-usual winter with below-average rainfall; smog likely to persist in Punjab and upper Sindh.
KARACHI: (UruPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct,22, 2025) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a milder winter this year, with temperatures likely to remain above normal across the country.
According to PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir, the months of November, December, and January are expected to see higher-than-average temperatures, especially in northern regions.
He said that rainfall will be below normal this winter, though light showers are expected toward the end of January. Due to reduced rainfall, smog levels in Punjab and upper Sindh are likely to remain high, further deteriorating air quality in these regions.
Anjum Nazir added that a depression has formed in the Arabian Sea, about 1,800 kilometers from Karachi, but it poses no threat to Pakistan’s coastal areas.
He also noted the presence of a cyclone near Madagascar, which is preventing the Arabian Sea depression from intensifying.
