PHC questions cremation ground approval amid no cabinet

The Peshawar High Court expressed concern over approving land for a cremation ground in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, noting that no provincial cabinet is currently in place.

PESHAWAR: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Oct,21, 2025) The Peshawar High Court raised concerns over the approval process for the cremation ground (Shamshan Ghat) project, noting that no provincial cabinet is currently in place to grant approval.

A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Waqar Ahmad heard the petition. Petitioner’s counsel Taimoor Khan argued that land in Kheeshgi Bala has been identified for the cremation ground, which belongs to the Department of Tourism. He added that a request had also been submitted for a bus service to transport bodies to the site.

Justice Syed Arshad Ali remarked, “There is no cabinet at the moment, so how will approval be granted? You yourself are a member of the provincial assembly.”

In response, Baba Gurpal Singh said he is an opposition member on a minority seat.

The bench observed that without a cabinet, no decision could be finalized before a month and directed the provincial government to submit a report. The hearing was adjourned until December 3.
