Former Test cricketer voices concerns over Salman Ali Agha’s rapid promotion
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 11th, 2025) Former Test cricketer Kamran Akmal criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for what he described as a lack of consistency and transparency in the national team's selection and leadership decisions.
Kamran Akmal expressed disappointment over the frequent changes in the team’s setup. “Every four months, we see a new captain, selector, and coach. There’s no stability or long-term vision. It seems no one is there to steer things in the right direction,” he said.
He was talking on show of a local private tv on Friday.
He alleged that decisions are being made based on personal preferences rather than merit, and the entire team is bearing the brunt of these arbitrary changes.
Akmal also voiced strong reservations over the appointment of Salman Ali Agha as T20 captain and reports suggesting he could soon be elevated to lead the ODI side as well.
“Salman has performed well in one format, but that doesn’t justify making him captain in all three formats,” he said. “He is still new to international cricket and should be given time to grow and learn.”
Referring to recent victories, Akmal said, “We beat Bangladesh and acted as if we had won the World Cup. We’ve seen this kind of overconfidence before during Sarfaraz Ahmed’s tenure, similar mistakes were made.”
The former wicketkeeper-batter urged the board to establish a clear and consistent system, stressing that the constant experimentation and favoritism would only harm Pakistan cricket in the long run.
