Indian cricketer is required to pay INR150,000 per month to Hasin Jahan and INR250,000 per month to their daughter, totaling INR400,000 in monthly maintenance
KOLKATA: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 5th, 2025) Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been directed by the Kolkata High Court to pay monthly maintenance to his former wife Hasin Jahan and their daughter Aira, amid ongoing legal proceedings.
As per the court's interim ruling, Shami is required to pay INR150,000 per month to Hasin Jahan and INR250,000 per month to their daughter, totaling INR400,000 in monthly maintenance. The decision was announced during the couple’s ongoing divorce proceedings.
Shami and Hasin Jahan got married in 2014, and their daughter was born in 2015. The couple separated in 2018 after Hasin Jahan publicly accused the cricketer of domestic violence and infidelity. Since then, the two have been embroiled in a lengthy legal battle over alimony, custody, and other matters.
Hasin Jahan, who worked as a model and actress before her marriage, told the court that Shami forced her to quit her career and live solely as a homemaker.
“I loved him deeply, that’s why I accepted everything. But now, without any source of income, I am completely dependent on him,” she stated.
In an interview with a news agency, Hasin Jahan expressed relief over the court’s decision, saying that “Thank God our country has laws that help people get their rights. When someone comes into a relationship, you can’t see on their face whether they’ll betray you or ruin your life. I was a victim of such betrayal. Shami needs to stop being stubborn. He cannot destroy me, because I stand on the side of justice, while he stands on the side of injustice,”.
Her lawyer, Imtiaz Ahmed, hailed the court’s order as a significant legal victory.
“Hasin Jahan has been fighting for her rights since 2018. The High Court has now ruled in open court that Mohammed Shami must pay INR400,000 monthly. Furthermore, any additional expenses for the daughter will also be his responsibility.”
he court also directed the trial court to deliver a final verdict on the main petition within six months.
According to her lawyer, the final amount could potentially increase to INR600,000 per month as Hasin Jahan originally demanded INR700,000 for herself and INR300,000 for her daughter.
